Whether you’re planning a trip, comparing EV models, or monitoring daily usage, this tool provides accurate, real-world range estimates.

What This EV Range Calculator Does

The EV range calculator estimates how far your car can travel using:

  1. Battery capacity (kWh)
  2. Current state of charge (%)
  3. Energy consumption (kWh per 100 km or per mile)
  4. Optional efficiency adjustments for driving style, terrain, and climate

It calculates:

  • Total estimated range
  • Range from current SoC
  • Range per mile or km
  • Realistic range based on driving conditions

It works for all major EVs including Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW, Hyundai and Kia.

How to Calculate EV Range

The formula behind the calculator is straightforward:

Estimated Range (km) = (Battery Capacity × Current SoC ÷ 100) ÷ Energy Consumption × 100

Step 1: Determine Energy Available

Energy Available (kWh) = Battery Capacity × Current SoC (%) ÷ 100

Example:

  • Battery: 75 kWh
  • Current SoC: 80%

75 × 0.80 = 60 kWh available for driving

Step 2: Account for Energy Consumption

Estimated Range = Energy Available ÷ Energy Consumption × 100 km

Example:

  • Energy available: 60 kWh
  • Consumption: 18 kWh/100 km

60 ÷ 18 × 100 = 333 km

So your EV range at 80% SoC is approximately 333 km.

Step 3: Adjust for Real-World Conditions

Driving style, terrain, weather, and climate control affect range:

  • Aggressive acceleration increases energy use
  • Cold weather reduces battery efficiency
  • Using air conditioning or heating consumes extra kWh

The realistic EV range calculator allows input for these adjustments for more accurate results.

EV Range Per Mile

For miles-based calculations:

1 km ≈ 0.621 miles

333 km × 0.621 ≈ 207 miles

So your EV can travel roughly 207 miles at 80% charge.

Full Charge EV Range Calculator

If your EV is at 100% SoC:

  • Battery: 75 kWh
  • Consumption: 18 kWh/100 km

Range = 75 ÷ 18 × 100 = 416.7 km (~259 miles)

This is the full battery range estimate for your vehicle under typical conditions.

Compare EV Range by Vehicle Model

Different EVs have different battery sizes and consumption rates:

EV ModelBattery (kWh)Consumption (kWh/100 km)Full Range (km)
Tesla Model 3 Long Range7516469
Volkswagen ID.47718428
BMW i48019421
Hyundai Ioniq 572.618403

This allows you to compare realistic range estimates for road trips, commuting, or fleet planning.

Factors That Affect EV Range

Several variables influence real-world range:

🔋 Battery Capacity

Larger batteries provide longer range.

⚡ Energy Consumption

Higher kWh/100 km → shorter range.
